Cleaning With Baking Soda

Baking soda has been used for years, maybe even centuries, as a natural cleanser and deodorizer. It's no different in this generation. Many choose baking soda as a substitute to buying commercial cleaners. It's not harmful and cleans, sometimes better, than most store brands. Try it for yourself. You will soon learn why so many have chosen this route for a safe cleaner and all purpose product. There are so many more uses then what is listed here, but you'll definitely get some good ideas.
  1. Good for cleaning tubs and sinks. Mix with water or soap to make a paste.
  2. Sprinkle a little inside your shoes to help control odor.
  3. Great for scrubbing pots, pans and dishes. Just make a paste with water and baking soda.
  4. Some use alone or as a paste for deodorant.
  5. Great for removing stains off counters, tables, chairs, trash cans…
  6. To remove coffee or tea stains from mugs and thermoses, put 2-4 tablespoons baking soda in and add hot water. Swish around and scrub clean.
  7. To clean and open drains up, pour ¼ - ½ cup baking soda in drain and pour 1 cup white vinegar down the drain. Let sit for 15 minutes and rinse with HOT water. Do this about twice a month or whenever your drain needs to be fresh or cleared.
  8. Put an open box in the refrigerator to absorb odors.
  9. Put a small amount on your toothbrush (plain or on top of toothpaste) and use to clean your teeth.
  10. Cleans coffee and tea stains out of drinking mugs.
  11. Works well on grease prone areas, like the stove and back of stove, on top of refrigerators, etc.
  12. Relieves itching caused by skin irritations, such as hives,
    mosquito bites and poison ivy. Use as a paste (with water) directly on skin or put ½ cup or more in bath water (cool/tepid water) and soak.
  13. Add a small amount of baking soda to your shampoo as you wash your hair to remove build up of hair products.
  14. Works great as a gentle exfoliater when mixed with your facial cleanser, clay mask powder or ground oatmeal.
  15. When mixed with cornstarch it's a great, natural substitute for baby powder.
  16. Baking soda is great for carpets. Sprinkle on carpet and walk around on it to push it into the carpet and leave on for ½ hour or even overnight. For added scent, sprinkle dried lavender or peppermint on floor before you vacuum. (Buy in bulk at health food stores.)
  17. Sprinkle in sinks and tubs and make a paste with water to scour.
  18. Baking soda easily (most times) removes crayons, pencil, etc. from walls and floors. *(There may be some exceptions). Make a paste and rub over spot until it is completely gone.
  19. Can be added to water when hand washing dishes.
  20. Can be used to remove odors from closets and drawers by putting in a sachet or in a cup and placed where needed.
  21. Has been used to clean sterling silver jewelry and silverware. Place items in a shallow pan and sprinkle with baking soda and rub with a soft cloth.
  22. Rub baking soda into wooden cutting boards to clean and add a little salt as you're washing.
  23. Use in your toilet bowl as a mild abrasive.
  24. After cutting garlic or onions, wash hands with baking soda to remove the smell.
  25. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply to face over acne infected areas.
  26. Baking soda cleans chalkboards to look like new. Make a paste of water and baking soda.
  27. Use to control odors in trash cans and diaper pails.
  28. Substitute your laundry detergent with baking soda, especially if you have sensitive skin.
  29. Clean your stainless steal sink with a paste of shampoo and baking soda.
